Creative Job Applications

Posted: 2nd February 2022

Jonathan Swifts creative job application has started trending with his unusual application for a marketing role.

Jonathan applied with a link to his Linkedin profile on the back of flyers from the printing company he was applying to. He then put the flyers on the windscreen of every car in the car park.
The marketing manager was so impressed with Jonathan’s application that he immediately invited him to interview.

Would you consider applying like this? If you are hiring would you like to receive an application like this?

Industry research states that on average recruiters spend 6-8 seconds looking at your CV before they decide whether you are suitable for their vacancy or not. In competitive markets having an application that stands out can be a real advantage, so being innovative and creative can really help.

Here are 3 easy ways to help you stand out without having to flyer every car in the car park!
  • Personalise your cover note- generic cover notes don’t add anything, neither do cover notes with the wrong job title. Write one that lets the hirer know why are you interested in that role and what experience have you got that fits.
  • If you are going for a stylised CV make sure it’s got all the necessary information and it’s not all about the looks
  • Pick up the phone 📱- speak to the hiring manager, if it goes well they might be looking out for your CV.
