The rate of expansion of jobs in the UK manufacturing sector increased at its fastest rate in December since July 2015, according to the latest data from Markit/CIPS UK manufacturing employment index.
The December index posted a reading of 51.2 in December, up from 50 in November and the highest reading since July 2015.
According to last month’s findings, the increase in jobs across UK manufacturing was “broad-based”. Increases were signalled across consumer, intermediate and investment goods sectors, and at small to medium enterprises (SMEs) and large-sized companies alike.
However, the overall UK manufacturing purchasing managers’ index recorded a reading of 51.9 in December, down from 52.5 in November. Any reading over 50 indicates growth.
