Role purpose

This is a visible, shop-floor focused role that works closely with Operations, Quality, Technical and Training teams to ensure quality standards are understood, followed and consistently achieved. The role will spend the majority of time on the manufacturing floor, observing process performance, coaching colleagues, identifying risks early and supporting teams to make the right decisions for product quality.

With the goal to make quality part of the business DNA, the Quality Performance Lead will provide practical leadership, encouraging and supporting individuals to ensure quality is an instinct that guides every decision, visible in every action, and present from first thought to final product.

The Quality Performance Lead is a role model for quality standards, ensuring quality is at the heart of everything they do.

Key accountabilities

  • Take ownership for quality performance across the allocated site, ensuring products move through production in line with required standards, customer expectations and internal quality requirements.
  • Provide visible quality leadership, working closely with operational teams to identify risks and reinforce right-first-time behaviours.
  • Coach and support colleagues to understand and apply quality standards, product expectations, process discipline and good manufacturing practice.
  • Work collaboratively with Quality Improvement Lead, Technical and Operations Teams to identify recurring quality issues, understand root cause and implement effective corrective and preventive actions.
  • Monitor site quality performance using data and observation to identify trends, risks and improvement opportunities, reducing waste, rework and cost of poor quality.
  • Support investigations into quality issues, customer concerns, non-conformances and internal failures, ensuring root cause is understood and sustainable actions are put in place.
  • Support new product introductions, trials and process changes, including PPAP/PSW activities, ensuring quality risks are understood, controlled and documented.
  • Conduct audits, compliance checks and calibrations to ensure standards are upheld and consistently applied.
  • Provide clear updates on site quality performance, risks, actions and improvement plans to the Quality Excellence Manager and relevant operational stakeholders

Key Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • Experience in a quality, manufacturing or operational environment, ideally within FMCG or manufacturing sectors.
  • Excellent understanding of quality standards, product specifications and process control.
  • Proven ability to work with operational teams to drive improvement, resolve issues and embed better ways of working.
  • Strong communication and influencing skills, including the ability to coach others.
  • Effective problem-solving skills, with experience identifying root causes and supporting practical corrective actions.
  • Ability to interpret quality data and trends to identify risks and opportunities.
  • Experience supporting audits, investigations or continuous improvement activities.
  • Well organised, able to manage time effectively across multiple priorities.
  • Ability to challenge the status quo, demanding excellent performance while maintaining positive relationships.
  • IT literate, able to use systems and data to support quality performance.
  • Qualifications preferred but not essential; practical experience equally valued.
  • Ideally 12 months’ experience within FMCG or manufacturing environments.
